Mixing Metallics

Winter = metallics! Rather than sticking to one metallic tone in your look, pack a style punch this season, and consider mixing metallic pieces. From gold with silver, to bronze with rose gold, do not be timid. You can go all out in every metallic tone à la Gucci and Balmain, or you can pair your hero metallic pieces with neutral tones à la Saint Laurent or Christopher Kane. The key to metallic mixing is balance. Equalize your 'metallics', and even if you add on a print or a solid color, your look will be a hit!

In my first look, I have paired a silver sweater and skirt with a gold coat. Having almost equal amounts of gold and silver in my look help pull my look together. The skirt is Alice and Olivia and the sweater is from Equipment, both purchased from the illustrious Nordstrom Rack. The coat might be a bigger score! It is a 100% wool, Donna Karan coat. I got it for over 70% off at the Saks Off 5th SF store in the designer section. Vanny-Tip: The San Francisco Saks Off 5th location has some hidden gems! Finally, I accessorized the look with a velvet burgundy headband (Forever 21) and Jimmy Choo patent leather pumps from Net-a-Porter.

My second look is more for a night on the town!  I have paired a silver lamé shirt and a sequin bronze mini skirt, with black patent leather boots. Because I am wearing a mini skirt and neutral shoes, I can pull the look together with a muted metallic, dark pink coat. Again, the colors work together because there isn't too much, or too little, of each metallic color in the overall palette. The shirt is American Retro from Yoox.com and the skirt is from Urban Outfitters. The boots are Stuart Weitzman and currently on sale!

Finally, my third look is more casual. I have paired a gold lamé top with silver, sequin-embellished jeans. To add a little more gold, I have paired the look with gold, glitter pumps. The top is vintage, the pants are from Asos, and the shoes are Gianvito Rossi from Net-A-Porter.
